DC United *clap clap clap clap clap clap*

DC United gets a little recognition for the banner year they're having:

Midfielder Freddy Adu and defenders Josh Gros and Bobby Boswell were added to the MLS All-Star roster Monday, giving United seven players on the 18-man team that will face Chelsea on Aug. 5. D.C. forward Alecko Eskandarian was a commissioner's pick, while goalkeeper Troy Perkins, midfielder Christian Gomez and forward Jaime Moreno were part of the "First XI" players selected last week.

Seven out of 18 is awesome, not to mention that Peter Nowak is coaching the all-star team. DC United couldn't do much better than they're doing now; a 13-1-5 record, 13-game unbeaten streak, and 20-point lead in the Eastern Conference. (I probably just jinxed them. Sorry, guys.)

What is going on in Toronto?

The Toronto Blue Jays disinfected their clubhouse after being forced to place right-hander Ty Taubenheim on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with an infection in his left foot, the second Toronto player to be placed on the DL because of a staph infection.

Ewwwwww.

"Staph infections are prevalent in most clubhouses. It could have happened here, it could have happened in Atlanta, Florida or some other clubhouse," Gibbons said.

I don't mind the rips on Atlanta and Florida, but I wonder why he's picking on the National League...it's not like AL guys are cleaner or anything. Just look at A.J. Pierzynski for an example of a dirty scumbag.

I'm still laughing over the Caps' decision to acquire Donald Brashear. He's one of the last guys who I ever though would join the team. Seems like an odd choice and inconsistent with the "younger team" philosophy, but who knows; maybe he'll make all the difference. Hope he does a good job for them.

I'm exceptionally excited to have Brashear in Washington. He's one of those players that everyone hates. Until he's wearing your team's sweater. I love players like that. Probably because my childhood idol was Dale Hunter.

Great blog here.

This is like the Zezel acquisition way back when, or even Berube. We'll learn to accept Brashear, but it's going to take some time to wash off the Flyer-skank. Although, you could question if we have that kind of time.

I hope he wears 87, though.

Of course, with the division as they are now and such, there are probably many younger fans who wouldn't understand the whole Flyer bit. So sad.

Biff- you and Fred both. He wears his Dale Hunter jersey to most Caps games, although most fans these days seem to have no idea who Hunter is. Sad.

Eddie- "Flyer-stank." LMAO! Ain't that the truth.
