Not like you needed it, but there are more reasons to dislike Mark Cuban:
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban acknowledged in an e-mail that he is "involved" in a bid to purchase the Penguins of the NHL with the provision that the team remain in Pittsburgh. Cuban, who is from western Pennsylvania, is teaming with Pittsburgh native Dan Marino and a New York financier to purchase the team from a group headed by Mario Lemieux.
There are so many things wrong with that paragraph:
- Cuban is from the Pittsburgh area (not surprising, given his manners)
- Dan Marino is also from Pittsburgh
- Cuban wants to be involved in the NHL
- He wants the Penguins to stay in Pittsburgh
Bleh. Sucks all the way around.
Did anyone else think this was kind of desperate of the BHOF? I mean, I like Dylan, but I don't think I'd ever want to hear his version of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."
The [Baseball Hall of Fame] has added the baseball episode from the famed singer-songwriter's weekly music show, "Theme Time Radio Hour," on XM Satellite Radio to its archive, it was announced Wednesday. The one-hour episode contains Dylan singing an a cappella rendition of "Take Me out to the Ball Game," along with classic baseball-announcing calls, such as Curt Gowdy's description of Ted Williams' home run in his final at-bat with the Boston Red Sox.

Abbot and Costello are enshrined in Cooperstown for "Who's On First?" So it's not as if this type of behavior from the BHOF is sans precedent.
And please, God, do NOT let Mark Cuban into the NHL. I will say all the Ave Marias you want me to, and I'm not even Catholic. The Pens need a sideshow freak in the owner's box the way a submarine needs a screen door.

"Who's On First?" is a classic. Dylan's version of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"? Not so much.
Touche!
But I've read the BHOF does have a lot of sound recordings in its archives. It's not like there's A&C, Dylan, and nothing else. They have a lot of audio in there: I think they even have Count Basie in there doing "Did You See Jackie Robinson Hit That Ball?" And I'd bet you dollars to donuts there's also that song about "Joltin' Joe DiMaggio" somewhere in those archives. They might even have the song "A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request" if it's as thorough as I think it is.
The only reason this was news was because it was Bob Dylan. There's a lot of other sound that they've got that will never be a headline.
Between betting players and steroid usage, Cooperstown might be afraid they will be running out of inductees in the coming years. Perhaps this is a way of filling a potential void. Lunacy.
Hey, what's with the Pittsburgh-bashing? It's a fun town! I lived there for 5 years and had a great time.
Stef, Caps fans are programmed to hate Pittsburgh. It's just one of those things. :-)
