Where to start? I guess I will start with the Caps. I just came from a dreadful 5 to nothing loss to the Florida Panthers. What can I say? It was a loss, but I can't say it was horrible. Yes they were shut out, but I thought overall they played well. The Panthers benefited from some really lucky bounces and a couple soft goals and incredible goaltending by Luongo. The Caps just didn't get the good bounces tonight. I am not too upset though. I hope they stay within the bottom four, but better than Fitsburg. This year is a washout anyway. I just want a good draft pick and a couple free agents so we don't have to go through this again.
Staying on the Hockey news front. Coyote' s assistant coach Rick Tocchet is charge with sports booking. This is a shocker and very bad news for the hockey world. There is word that he was working with a corrupt NJ State Trooper and "Organized Crime" has been mentioned. (Insert Tony Soprano joke here) The late word from Comcast was that "the Great One" wife has been mentioned in the investigation. The women who some feel took Gretzky from Canada may be in trouble. I personally hope this does not get messy.
Now for news on the DC United front. Scuttlebut has it that DC United has been in talks with Chelsea of the English Premier league. The reported deal has Chelsea paying DC United 8.7 million dollars for Adu's rights. If this means a couple extra quality players and a soccer only facility I say I am all for it. Adu has great potential, but he has been wanting out since he got here. His contract is up at the end of the 2007 season. So if United can get something before he bolts, what's wrong with that? One thing though, if he can't crack the starting lineup in the MLS, how is he going to fair in the Premier League?
As I am writing this, the DC council is pretending to actually give a shit about baseball. Earlier today they rejected the Stadium deal. Now that Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine said that he would welcome baseball in Northern Virginia, the council may have gotten a dose of reality. Baseball does not need DC. Virginia has been itching for a breakdown. Maybe they even expected it, since the Virginia Stadium authority is still technically active. Does anyone remember that Jack Kent Cooke wanted to build a stadium in DC. WITH HIS OWN MONEY! And DC couldn't handle that. So it doesn't look good for the Nationals in DC. So Yes Virginia it does look like there is a Santa Claus. I just looks like he was a bit late. My personal opinion. I like baseball in DC. It is close for me and DCSportsChick. We can get to the stadium in 20 minutes most days. I don't think we will have that luxury if they moved to Loudon, but we will adjust.

Things have changed since I went to bed last night. It looks like the DC council blinked. Maybe Gov. Kaines comments made them come to their senses, but the Staduim proposal finially passed. I have not been able to check what is in it. I am just happy that it is over. I think. It is DC.
I am so confused. Are the Nats staying or going? Heysus!
Agree, that the team being in DC makes for easy access. But I'll take VA if I have to. Anything's better than Baltimore (but I do love Camden, just not on week nights)
Right now the Nats are here. But I did think it was solid last year. I don't know how the details work. Part of the problem was that the first proposal was voted on by a lame duck committee. This one has been office now for a year. I believe the term for DC council is 3 or 4 years. So unless something very weird comes up and Baseball does accept the proposal, it is a done deal. Let's hope that is the case.
