Silly me, I thought goalies didn't get knocked on the head as much as other players...but the Sabres' Martin Biron has proved me wrong, regarding now-deposed NHL Players' Association head Bob Goodenow:
Goodenow's departure caught Buffalo Sabres goalie Martin Biron by surprise.
"I'm a little shocked right now. I personally had a lot of faith in what Bob was going to be able to do and what he did. There was some criticism, but I didn't think that he deserved all that criticism," Biron said.
Well, let's see. Because of Goodenow, the players completely lost face with the owners by conceding to the salary cap and they lost a full season of play. Not to mention pissing off thousands of fans- I've never found myself agreeing with owners before in a salary dispute, but I think the players clearly missed the mark here. There are some who are ridiculously overpaid and some who don't get nearly what they should, but they seem to forget that this is HOCKEY and this is AMERICA- the two don't necessarily go hand in hand here. Isn't NASCAR a bigger draw?
Neither side played the whole lockout thing very well, but I think the players were the biggest idiots; good to see they finally made their second-best decision this month in sacking Goodenow. How he thought he would be sticking around, I don't know; and why some of the players like Biron the moron are surprised, I have no idea. Jeremy Roenick would set them straight- that is one angry man.
And wow. If that rumor about Goodenow attending the MLB All-Star game instead of participating in the overnight talks is true, then getting canned should be the least of his worries right now!
