Buying the Caps' castoffs

Yesterday Chanuck and I attended the Caps' Equipment Sale. Judging from the pushing crowds, it was a popular event. I thought it was well-run; not all items were put out at once, so everyone had a chance to pick up something good. "Something good" could theoretically include the blue Jan Bulis #8 jersey that a laughing Horn Guy was holding up. (But really, can you blame him for cracking up?)

The sticks were the most popular. After being jostled and shoved around enough, Chanuck found this gem:It's Jurcina's stick, all right. Check out the nameplate:Funny, eh?

He also picked up a pair of Erskine's gloves (they looked brand new, even though they weren't), shirts, and shorts. It was a really good deal and there was all sorts of cool stuff. Sweatbands! Underwear bags! It didn't appear (at least in our session) that anyone was really dying for the chance to enter to win the privilege of buying Ovechkin's used equipment, but I'm sure there were some takers. The prices for his items were double the rest of the team's, of course, but that's still a bargain for a collector.

This week: the unveiling! Will the red, white, and blue live up to everyone's expectations?

Was the sale a benefit for anything in particular?
