Bet you didn't know that there's a new team in town: the Washington Glory- women's professional fastpitch softball.Yesterday on the show, we interviewed the Glory's owner, Paul Wilson. He told us about the team (so far they have several talented players, including Amber Jackson from UMD and Monica Abbott from Tennessee). Washington joins other teams in the league, powerhouses like Chicago, New England, Philadelphia, Akron, and Rockford, IL. (Apparently the Chicago area is huge for softball.) Yes, players like Jennie Finch (Chicago) and Cat Osterman (Rockford) are playing in the league. The Glory will play about 28 games at home (they'll play either in Loudoun County or Fairfax), so it's worth checking out.
But hey! If you want to own your own team, you can! All you need is about $300,000 and a stadium.

you're right, I had no idea women's softball came to DC. :P
The Glory franchise is, frankly, in tatters. The biggest name in amateur softball, the Brakettes, dropped ties to the franchise and allowed the team to move.
The Brakettes had drafted Osterman but she signed on with Rockford. And former WPSL MVP Kaci Clark retired.
Furthermore, the team is now homeless. Will they play at UMD's softball-specific stadium? Or down at Woodbridge's softball complex?

There don't seem to be many working links on their page.
I see they are looking for sponsors. How much do you think it would cost to get my name on their butts or something? Maybe then people would read my crappy blog.
I had no idea there was such a thing. I thought after the Olympics and Arizona Jenny was done and after Texas Kat Ostermann was gone as well. I wonder how well this will take off. Maybe more than professional soccer.
They're playing in right near 123 and 495 aka GMU. Season Tickets are only $300 bucks a seat for the entire schedule of 29 games. I know I'll be attending at least one game for shits and giggles.
You and me both, MDG- sounds interesting.
This is awesome. I just recently moved to Northern VA from Iowa and love the game of softball. It would be great to see the Glory play and stay here! By the way, where do us amateurs play around this area? Is their a good women's adult league around the ashburn/sterling/dulles area?
Hi Anonymous,
There's a few leagues (co-ed and women's) in the area (caveat: I don't know anything about these). Best check out this info from the Going Out Gurus:
