Screw winning the Cup, just buy it

Thought this snippet from Tarik's blog was interesting:

Semin and Bryan Muir dropped their gloves and exchanged punches toward the end of yesterday's practice. The confrontation began after Muir checked Semin in the corner during a five-on-five drill. Neither player was injured during the fight, but Muir appeared to be bleeding from the nose. Ironically, it was enforcer Donald Brashear who broke up the scrap.

It's nice to see that Semin can get into it when needed. Of course, it would be better if he would scrap with guys who aren't on his team, but baby steps, you know?
In case you ever wanted one, you can buy your very own Stanley Cup replica, complete with gloves, crate, and table cover:

This officially licensed 2' tall replica Stanley Cup® Trophy Pack from UPI Marketing includes a crate, table cover, white gloves and a "New Keeper of the Cup" Certificate.

It can be yours for the bargain price of $224.99. Seriously! Now, who do they expect to buy this, exactly? It's not like you're going to walk into someone's house and be like, "Wow, you own the Stanley Cup?" Every hockey fan will know it's a replica. I guess you could convince some dumbasses, but what's the point of spending $225 to do that? I suppose one could do all the things with it that the players do, like drink crap beer or Carolina Hurricanes out of it or throw it into a pool. Yeah!

The Pengyunz also did that to the Cup hence the book "What is the Stanley Cup Doing in Mario Lemieux's Pool?" by one of the USA Today hockey scribes.

To the DSSportsChick,

Too bad you feel that way.
The Cup is spectacular along with the trunk, showcase tablecloth, the white gloves and the certificate that my son is now the proud Keeper of The Cup. We had all of his friends play street hockey with great passion and enthusiasm. It was Game 7, Stanley Cup final that day. My son was his hockey hero that day as he raised the Cup. We are planning on getting it autographed by his hockey heros. I can see these Cups going to the Children's Hospitals and raising money for charity events. Perhaps you should think outside of the box more and have some compassion for these kids that want to DREAM BIG!

How does one autograph a metal object, exactly?

It is called a fine tip felt pen known as a "Sharpie" which players normally use when they autograph any objects.
By the way, my eight year old son and I are playing hockey downstairs tonight and he is wearing his Washington Capitals jersey because he is going to pretend to be one of his favourite players, Olaf Kolzig and he is going to win the Cup tonight!
Never ever stop dreaming!!!!

I find the novelty Cup interesting, but $230 is a bit much. Would be worth it if it actually had the engravings on it.

Ce la vie!

Go Caps, Go Sens!

I believe the true diehard hockey fan would purchase this CUP for his or her rec room because these are less than a composite stick that when it breaks you throw it away. I just got mine signed by Wayne Gretzky now its priceless!!! A truly unique product to get your hockey heros autographs from the past and future. Rather than just a jersey,I can choose any player I want to be on this Cup,because when you get right down to it we all play for the Cup whether its for real or imaginary.

Finally a product I can actually pick up and show my friends the autographs on it,not just a jersey or a picture that just hangs on the wall. My favorite team is the MONTREAL CANADIANS,I am going to place a Canadians logo on this Cup to showcase every time they have won the cup!GO HABS GO!

Out of all the hockey gear i have bought for my boy over the years, this is one item he'll never grow out of. I think we will play for the CUP every Father's Day and start our own tradition.
