Funny thing happened on the way to a hockey game;

So I was eating chow with a buddy of mine waiting to go to a hockey game( more on that later), and ESPN was on the TV. Well there was baseball on. Did anyone know that they had a World Baseball Classic? I guess this is Baseball's answer to soccer's World Cup. Brotha's got to make sum money. Well naturally US would be a lock on this tourney. Guess again. The Baseball game we caught part of was US vs Canada, and the US wasn't doing so well. It looks like someone was looking past Canada and didn't take them too seriously. Big mistake. Canada actually has some "big league" players. True most grew up on hockey and according to the announcers the all had a pick-up hockey game the day before. Hell one of the Canadian players had a hockey stick in the dugout. So is this a Canadian version of "Miracle on Ice"? I don't think so, but it is funny. It hit the radar, but I don't think it will stick. Hell, it is only preliminary round. It just means that the US team is overrated. A team full of big names and talent that can't play well together. Sounds like the Yankees on steroid.

Sorry, did I say steroid? So did anyone get any of the poop on the new book that came out? All I have to say about the Bonds book is, has Bonds or any of his cronies come out and said that this book it untrue? I have heard that they question the motive of some of the sources and authors, but nothing about whether or not it was true. Nuf said.

OK, now to the news of the wired. On a previous post I ragged about the name of the Houston MLS team adopted. For those not in the know the name was 1836. The name symbolized the founding of Houston and of a battle won over Mexico. Well it seems there was a bit of an uproar. I don't know specifics, but some in the Mexican community had a bit of an issue celebrating a victory over their ancestors. I know this is a little touchy, but is it wise to potentially to piss off the very people you want to watch the team? Of course they did decide to change the name. Now on the same vein, there was another name change in MLS. The formally New York/New Jersey Metro(pukes)stars were purchased by someone and that someone decided to rename the team. So welcome the New York Red Bull? Can you guess the new owners? It is actually Red Bull. You know the "power" drink. I don't know what to think about this. It is just too much for me to handle. I almost feel sorry for the fans in NYC, but too much. As a DC United fan there is no love loss with the MetroPukes. Now the next step is if Houston goes for a real name like the Houston Walmart, how about Mountain Dew? Too bad Enron can't afford it any longer. I could give them some street creds. And the winner is Houston Dynamo. Are they going to hand out dishwasher detergent at the gates? Maybe it is not that Dynamo?

Last thing. I did say I would mention the hockey game. I saw my first Caps vs Pens game in person Wednesday night and it was the first time the Caps won against them. Coincidence, I think not. Very satisfying night over all. Crosby held to one point and OV had a 3 point night. Very cool.
