I hate pink
Sunday, September 17, 2006
Say I'm a woman who wants to get one of those nifty female-cut hockey jerseys. When I go to the Official Capitals Shop at nhl.com, guess what my only option is? You guessed it:It's even uglier than I imagined. A steal at $55! Appropriate for a 9-year-old girl, not appropriate for a 29-year-old woman.

But thank God, the personalized jersey is available too for $75. Think we'll see any of these around?

And it gets worse! Let's say that I decide against a jersey and want a different item of clothing instead. Good luck with that, because there's another five options of pink clothing- fleece jacket, polo shirt, sweatpants, sweatshirt, or t-shirt. Yuck. Has the NHL gone pink?

I guess it's better than this thing, which is currently in the clearance bin for obvious reasons. I know they love their hockey in Detroit, but do they have to go to bed with it too? Sadly, I could see this fine polyester chemise being a sexy item there. How many hot nights started with this thing?

Where are the female-cut jerseys? There's four of them in the NHL outlet: Flyers, Blues, Bruins, and Islanders. Since I don't plan on becoming a fan on any of those teams or buying a pink jersey, I guess I'll have to wait.

I am SO against the pink sports merchandise. I mean, if women can't wear the team colors to support the team, they shouldn't be there in the first place. Who is buying this junk? I hate it! :) I don't really do sports either though, but still. If I'm going to a Red Sox game, I'm going to wear Red & Navy, not a pink hat. :)

I don't even try to wear the women's clothes most of the time. They are almost all slutty or ugly (like the shirt you have here). The good news is that I could wear my Simeon Rice jersey even when I was pregnant with twins.

Why can't they just make a regular colored jersey that is cut for boobs and hips? What is the problem with that?

I totally agree - it seems so patronizing that they think all women want to wear pink. It's as if all of the professional leagues got together and decided that women had to be "girly" at games, because being a sports fan just wasn't feminine enough. So insulting.

I'm a Sabres fan, but it's the same thing there. I just don't understand. If I'm a female hockey fan (that's HOCKEY, as in "give blood play hockey"), what are the chances I really like pink? Who came up with that!?

Moreover, what I'm completely offended by is that there is NO option to buy a female fitting jersey with the correct colors. The ONLY option for females is pink. I *might* be ok with it if the pink was a third option… for those girls who do care about looking cute and girly. But as the ONLY option? no. no. no.
